Pulled my master cylinder out to make room for my steering box removal and found a surprise. Looks like the master was leaking into the booster. I just ordered a new master and wondering if he brake fluid messed up the power booster.

I have never heard of DOT 3 brake fluid damaging a brake booster but the DOT 5 might damage it because it will severely swell the OEM brake hoses..

why would DOT 5 swell the OEM brake hoses? I have been using it for at least 20 years and nothing has happened to the hoses.

I do not think that you will have any internal damage to the booster. If it is working well I would clean it up and make sure it operates smoothly.

Do you have any back up for this claim?

If you read my post again you'll see I didn't make any claim.

I'm still wondering why the master would have to come out to remove the steering box. My '77 box was easily removed, with pitman arm still attached, by just sliding the alternator out of the way.

Conventional DOT 3 is hard on paint but does not hurt rubber. DOT 5 is not hard on paint or rubber. The brake fluid will not harm rubber in a a booster.

Well popped out the vacuum grommet and put a flexible rod in with some paper towel on the end. The booster is loaded with brake fluid. No matter what I am taking it off this weekend.

Sorry to hear that, probably worth replacing it. Looks like you get to remove my four favorite bolts....

How big of a PIA is it to remove the booster? I was going to remove the Drivers seat and use a swivel with a long extension

I know on my 76, it can be a pain to remove it and reinstall it. There's just not enough space in that floor board area to be able to move around to good even with the seat out;
