I was gonna do it, the locks and handles, still might... maybe not the handles cause they dont look so bad. I'm shaving the front emblem and the "corvette" on the rear bumper as well as relocating the alarm key thingy to the inside and removing the siren since its also an ignition cutoff.
After installation of power locks with a remote, I'm contemplating making my own black carbon fiber door handles and painting the trim cup around the handle and the lock black. Since my car will be black someday, I want the shaved monolithic look, but can't imaging shaving the handles on a Vette.
It's a hot rodder thing and if it's done right it looks pretty good. The doors are opened by solenoids and "poppers" which pop the door open when the solenoid is activated. Most hot rods have a hidden switch to activate the doors manually if you use the remote type of opener. On a shark the switch could be hidden in the wiper trough or under a wheel well or in the front bumper opening. It just has to be accessible. As far as having a dead battery goes, I would try to hook up a battery just dedicated to the doors and hood which could be isolated from the rest of the system. The battery wouldn't have to be as big as the main battery since it wouldn't be used for any of the car's main systems, just the doors. Possibly a smaller motorcycle batter could be installed in one of the other compartments behind the seats. I don't think I'll be doing this to my car but it is possible if you have a mind to do it.
Yup, got shaved handles on my maco sharks. Also on another custom we are doing.
Here is the easiest way that I have found.
Dakota Digital sells a kit for remote power windows. This way, you use the inside door handle to open the doors after you roll the windows down.
It is simple, and you have the missing door handle. No need to have an outside lock either. They work off of a remote on your keychain. They roll either window up or down. Also I have an emergency switch mounted so I can roll the windows down in case I lock the keys in the car.
And yes, the battery can go dead. I have race car jacks mounted at the license plate so I can jump the shark without having to go behind the seat with jumper cables. A lot of people on the forum will probably discourage this as it modifies the car. As for me, if its your car, do what you wish. Personally, I love customs, and I have traveled the NCRS route too. They both have their place.
Good luck, and if you have more questions, IM me.

my luck the battery would go dead, and when i went to jump it, the fuse would blow for the remote window and door locks.
I thought about that too. The windows are on seperate fuses. I did this modification myself. You would have to lower the windows before you started the car so you could get to the switch to start it.
I am sure that there could be some wild reason for the thing to malfunction, but so far, it works great. :yesnod:
