Why change oil before winter storage??
If the car is not going to be started in winter (5-6 months), why do I need to change oil before storing??
I plan on changing the oil / filter in summer (before starting of course). I plan on using the engine fogger before storing away.
Is this acceptable? The oil would just sit there anyway, without doing anything.

The additives in the oil deteriorate with time and mileage, and oil tends to become increasingly acidic with usage.
Having fresh clean oil sitting there is considered better than old nasty oil. You're going to change the oil anyway, why wait for spring?

The oil would have to be changed in summer too because if it sits for 6 months, it looses its properties.....so why change twice??

Then change it once a year- right before you store it. 6 months of storage won't cause the oil to deteriorate or become acidic.

You should change your oil just before storage and let the car run for a while, this will help clean out any gunk/deposits that might solidify while sitting. Also it will coat the engine with pretty fresh oil. Oil will lose some of it's effectiveness sitting in a cold engine for 6 months exposed to air so you should change it again in the spring. Sitting on a store shelf it is only exposed to the little bit of air in the bottle's stem. Figure for the price of a couple oil changes, about $40, why not?

I do beleive that the other reason to change your oil is in case there is any condinsation built up from heating and cooling which will stay in your block rusting  for 6 months as your baby sleeps  For the cost it is cheap insurance. Your choice good luck

fevre is dead on here, for $30 - 40 why risk anything, as we all know any engine work gets very expensive quickly.

Thanks guys. I was only wondering about this...not trying to be cheap. I never mind spending money (within reasons of course) on the Vette.
Also, what exactly is the fogger stuff?? I plan on using it, but not sure exactly how it works? Or is it even worth it??
