Default 1979 L48 shield behind distributor

Looking for some guidance on how to install the shield that goes between the distributor and the firewall, looks like horse shoe. Please see image, not sure what it connects to or how to connection, any help greatly appreciated. thanks

It fits behind the distributor to shield the ignition and prevent radio interference. I use the term 'fits' loosely. It is a bit of a challenge to get it in place. When you have it positioned correctly, it will cover the ignition wires, and the clip at the top front of the shield will clip over the front edge of the HEI. There is a ground strap that attaches to a stud on the passenger side of the shield with a wing nut. The other end of the ground strap is bolted to the intake manifold.

Thanks so there are two wires that connect to the shield, one to the intake and the other to the firewall, is that correct?
thanks

The shield is not connected to the firewall on my car. I cannot guarantee that is the way it came from the factory, but I suspect it is. I do not see any evidence that there was ever any other connection besides the one to the intake manifold.
