Cooper and other tire recall
NHTSA Recall ID Number :
17T019
Synopsis :
Cooper Tire & Rubber Co. (Cooper) is recalling certain Cooper Cobra Radial G/T tires, sizes P215/70R14, P225/70R14 and P225/70R15, Cornell 1000 tires, size P235/75R15, El Dorado Golden Fury GFT tires, size P205/75R15, Futura GLS Super Sport tires, size P225/70R14, Mastercraft Avenger G/T tires, size P225/70R14, Mastercraft MC-440 tires, sizes 185/60R15, 215/60R16, 225/60R16, 225/60R17 and 205/55R16, Starfire RS-C 2.0 tires, sizes 215/60R16 and 205/55R16, Starfire SF-340 tires, sizes P215/65R16, P185/60R15, P215/60R16 and P225/60R16, Cooper Trendsetter SE tires, sizes P205/75R15 and P235/75R15, Mastercraft A/S IV tires, sizes P205/75R15 and P235/75R15, and Vanderbilt Turbo-Tech G/T Radial tires, size P225/70R14. These tires were manufactured with an incorrect belt rubber compound that may result in poor adhesion of the rubber to the belt wires, potentially resulting in a belt separation. If the belt separates from the tire it can cause loss of vehicle control, increasing the risk of a crash. Cooper will notify owners, and dealers will replace the tires, free of charge. The manufacturer has not yet provided a notification schedule. Owners may contact Cooper customer service at 1-800-854-6288. Cooper's number for this recall is 170.

just purchased 8 coopers,4 (225x70x15) for the vette and 4 (265x70rx17)for my pick up and 1 has already blown out on my truck.Well Cooper won't stand behind it and the company I brought it from(Simple Tire.com) won't stand behind it,they said it wasn't defective when it left the factory! I haven't installed the vette tires yet so I'll look into this. Thanks for the heads up,and tell your friends I don't think dealing with "Simple Tire.com is a good idea(my opinion any way). Mike

I have the Cooper Cobras as many others here. I just went to the NHTSA site and picked this.

Note Posted before I read the whole thing. But it appears as though the complaint cases were several years old.

It's amazing what happens when the appropriate parties are informed.
I know it works most times as I just did it with General Electric and UL / CSA.
I was a voting member of ASTM and NFPA - when we received letters the results were astounding - I'll leave it at that.

Put your tire number in and check for recalls. It recommends you to register your tires in case of a recall.

You can also search for all recalls issued by date in case you don't have your numbers handy. I did that and saw the recall date of the Coopers was 12/14/17...hot off the presses!
I put sets of their (Cooper's) 225/70R15's on 2 Camaros I restored and sold recently. A 1973 and a 1980 Z28. I have no idea who the new owners are otherwise I would pass the info on.
I almost ordered a set for my '76, but opted to go another route...and I'm glad now that I did!

I would send a letter to the NHTSA , your State attorney general and the seller with a return receipt requested. Make the letter very polite and factual - date of install, pictures, condition of the vehicle - such as just passed state inspection ..etc, miles driven and a detailed description of the incident (include temperature) , cost.

Mine are all good. decided to check every cooper tire i have. lol although the tires on my Vette were made 10 years ago. They are not weather checked or cracked, and have been in a warm climate out of the sun since mounted.
