There used to be a gentleman on the forum that would refurb and wrap a vintage wheel. I had my 73 wheel done by him and he put a nice tight black leather wrap on it. Chuck something and he was in Michigan. I'll try and find the receipt with his info and edit the post if I do. Maybe some other members may know who I'm talking about.

Still a great wheel IMO.

I owned a '76 Corvette for about 4 years and I liked that steering wheel. And it was okay with me if Vega GT owners benefitted from it as well.

it was not a one year only wheel look at post#12 (76 to 79 on some models)and also was a Vega wheel for more years.

The wheel was also used on 1977 and 1979 cars without tilt tele wheel. My 28k mile 78 SA car has the same wheel on it... and just in case everyone is counting... I hate it. The car is 100 percent original and I have a tilt column I'm thinking about sticking in there.

What color wheel do you need? I may have a used one.

I've had great luck getting rid of the sticky by using just plain old lacquer thinner on the wheel.... You'll have to get the rag pretty wet with the thinner but you might try it with that and see how it feels.

Or you can purchase a conversion kit and install the later style wheel on the car. That's what we did in the car pictured below.

Here is the conversion kit.

Once converted you can run any steering wheel from 1969-1982.

This isn't the correct color for a 1976 car, the customer had us change it to the 1972 red color.

Nope.. Works On Tilt & Tele Columns Only. Yesterday I pulled down a red wheel and and wiped it clean with thinner, it feels perfect today. I'm going to let it set a while and check it again in a few weeks..

There are companies out there offering special order Leather Steering wheel Covers for a wide variety of steering wheels.

If anyone is interested in one such company, you can PM me and I'll be happy to pass the information on.

Good luck... GUSTO
