Hi guys!
a quick one, are there any rebuild kits out there for the proportioning valve? Cant seem to find one. For a 79 vette. Dont have the car in mygarage atm as its still at my ex's place.(if anyone wants to trade engagement ring for corvette parts.... lol). Its the only part of the system that wouldnt be new, and I want to swap to dot 5.1.
Anyway. While im at it, does anyone know the shop 'perfmance Chevrolet' in New York? They worked a lot on this car (found old receipts) and trying to get as much info as possible ( cant use the vin as its exported now).
cheers!
I have never seen a rebuild kit for the Prop Valve. From what I remember, there isn't any removable parts. You just have to bite the bullet and shell out $90 if its defective. Do not try to use a cheap or universal unit. The way the brakelines come into the Prop Valve from all different angles, it is a precise fit, little room to manuver. When you decide to purchase a new Prop V, order the little tool to help you keep the slide piston in there centered. If you plan to bleed the system using vacuum or Motive pressure pump, you will not need the tool. Click on my profile, I have some pics of the tool in photo album. Also, order the exact yr unit you need. It seems they changed the brake lite warning switch wiring on some yrs.

It's rare that you'd need to rebuild this valve, the only moving parts inside is the switch itself. You should remove it and blow brake cleaner through the valve, this will clean it out if there is a blockage. A proportioning valve is just a glorified distribution block with a pressure switch. I'm not sure why you are looking for one unless the switch is bad but if you do want one I have them new in stock. https://willcoxcorvette.com/corvette...ng-valve-78-82

Cheers!
The valve I have is still in working order.
Though, when I first drove the vette I noticed a leaking front left brake caliper, wich had a stuck seal. Probably from standing for too lon ( Last time the car was driven was 2005 afaik).
Is it worth rebuilding the valve or getting a universal one? I'm replacing all brake pipes as well. So I can customize everything. (not using pre formed lines, they wouldn't survive shipping anyway).
Only reason I'd like to rebuild/renew this valve is because it would be the only brake component wich isn't new. And I don't want any issues when swapping to the dot 5.1
Like I said earlier, a universal will not work out. Not only do the two bolt holes have to line up to the frame but you have five brakelines and a switch harness to line up perfect.
As mentioned earlier, just clean the inside of old Prop Valve well, it should be fine.
(Dot 5.1?)
If you want to see what the inside of one those Prop V looks like, there is a drawing in my profile album.

Great pictures and very informative write up. I am surprised a company has not offered rebuild services for these Prop Valves like they do with Calipers and Masters at a fraction of the cost of the valve.

There is a rebuild kit available, I searched online and found one years ago. I believe it was Classic Car Rebuilders or something like that. There are O-rings inside that they provide new replacements for. Otherwise there are simply some moving "pistons", so clean it up, put new O-rings on, and you are good to go. If you can't find this by Googling, PM me and I will try to find it in my records.
EDIT....after I posted I see the links above....that is where I got the rebuild kit....Muscle Car Research.
