I have had several cars/trucks with the 4.3L V6 and have been very impressed. I know this is sensitive topic, but has anyone put a 4.3L V6 in a C3? You can get 250HP out of them and if you add a supercharger, you are to 350 HP or more. Would the less power be offset by the weight reduction? Was it the Lumina Z34 that came with a 4-valve per cylinder 4.3L?
interesting point. I had that motor in a 98 Jimmy. It ran strong and was very smoothe. I just can't past hearing 6cyl camaros, and if I heard a vette sound like that I'd faint!
I have to agree. my 4.3L is good but not vette good. mainly because it will never Rumble like a v8. hell it has more HP than a stock L48, so its not a bad motor, but it just wouldnt be right.
First off I'll agree the 4.3 is a pretty good motor, but have you ever driven a camaro/firebird with one?? They are decent, but not sports car good. Assuming you could get over hearing that god-awful sound coming from your tailpipes, my main objection would be this: The 4.3 will be just as costly to fit as a 5.7L would be maybe even more so (the 4.3 requires different motor mounts than vettes have). The weight savings definately does NOT make up for the missing power. Drive a buddies 4.3L fullsize truck and then drive a similar 5.7L truck, Worlds of difference in the v8's favor. True you could hit 350HP with supercharger and the like, but you can hit 300HP with a Vortec 5.7 with exhaust and intake mods, what will it do with a supercharger? Similarly you will find that while the truck motors are nice you can put in an LT1 with about the same effort (this even has a bigger aftermarket support). Oh well that's my 2 cents.
no f-body had a 4.3 all new ones are 3.8 and older are 3.4 i think there may have been a 3.6 too. the 4.3 has the best torque and response. hell my blazer can light em up easier than my vette. but its drum rear, and solid axle

I had to add, I love your sig. that was a great movie

The '95-'96 Monte Carlo had a 4V/cyl. 3.4L V-6. 215hp. Strong cars. My '96 S-10 has a 4.3. It is a strong engine, but my mild 350 in the Vette will take it any day.

 i've had buddies of mine put lager motors in smaller cars in the past(chevette with a 454, fiero tubbed out with a 350, S-10 with a 396 stroker) but to put a smaller motor in a sports car!!!!!! and the greatest sports car of all time!!!!!!!! :U
well, its your car and you will do want you want with it, but personally, the thought of a V-6 in a vette sickens me :U
i like the idea of this topic. you can pull 500 horsepower out of a 4.3 and to have a 6 cyl doing it... the only reason i wouldnt like it in a vette is because when you think vette, you think V8. its the same reason i wouldnt like a v12 in a vette.
ive often thought of stroking my 4.3 to a 5.0(ish) and going arround beating up on mustangs in it. then i can say "You have a 4.6L and 8 cylinders, i have a 5L and 6..."
I have a 4.3 in my Sonoma Highrider and will be looking for more performance when I am out of warranty. Anyone every use try a tbi spacer on a 4.3? Was hoping that combined with a high flow cat/exhaust and maybe a computer reprogram would get me better throttle responce and some more hp. Bet if you super or turbo charged one it would make a great daily driver. Have to admit my gas mileage sucks but what you expect with a jacked up truck, giant tires and a 3.73 rear. :)
My cousin built up a worked 4.3 and put it in his 69 camaro,i gotta admit if i didnt know what a v-6 sounded like i wouldve swore it ran like an 8 .
That’s my point, it is more of a "what if" topic. I still think it would a unique twist. I guess you could build an all out racing motor from GMPP catalog if you had to have the dyno chart in your glovebox.
How many times do you use all 500 horses or 500 lb ft of torque? Personal, I accelerate to 45-70 as fast as I can, then it is cursing. Around town, a 4.3L might be kinda fun.
When I become a millionaire and I can spend all my time building project cars, I will do a 4.3L MG or Feiro first. :yesnod:

Have heard that the Cadillac Northstar bolts right into the Feiro and makes for an awesome car. Knew a guy who stuffed a sbc into one but said it was not a easy job.
Following the lines of 'Why do it?' mind set, why put a sbc in when a bb fits? Why put a 396 bb in when a 502 fits? When GM puts out ther v-12, are we going to ask 'Why put a v-8 in when you can have a v-12?'? All a matter of personal preference I guess.
is a 15 liter 4 cylinder still "Just a 4 cylinder?" and not 1.5, 15 (fifteen). back in the early 1900s i read about a 15 liter 4 cylinder. giant bore and stroke. i think it had arrond 60 horsepower and gobs of torque. just curious if it was the absence of cubes that you guys didnt like or the absence of cylinders. i wonder how a 1.2L V8 would sound... :jester
Why not.......not exactly my taste, but a interesting winter project, maybe.Don't see why you should, with plenty of cheap gas around....V8 is what makes a Corvette, imo!
