Frankly...I dont' think it came riveted to the inner fender. Looking at my 79 service manual, it shows it mounted freely secured by the two heater hoses it connects. This is the way my 78 shut-off valve is mounted.
Like to hear if anyone does have it mounted on the fender.

I mounted mine on the 81' by making a bracket out of some flat iron, short pieces of rod, and a piece of one inch tubing cut in half to make some stand off saddles to rest the heater hoses in and held them in the saddles with zip ties.
There are no rivets. The heater hoses are connected to the inner fender by a bracket/clamp. Here is a pic.

It is a push-in fit to a square hole on the inner fender housing. It will pop out unless secured with a little silicone sealant.

Have both a 1979 L82 and a 1980. Replaced them both with AC/Delco
parts. No bracket on the 1979, it is supported by the hose.
The 1980 has a bracket which is riveted to the inner fender.

My '76 wasn't mounted to anything. Just mount it in a spot on the heater hose to where the vacuum hose or the outer moving parts aren't in a bind. The hose clamps on each end of it will let you position it anyway you want. :) :chevy

i thought they were held by the hoses and the hose holder that paul showed in his pic. the valve came with a braket spot welded to it.
so i guess i can do either.

Here is a schematic view. What I called a bracket, GM calls a clip (part #2).

thanks paul.
i have the clip that holds the hoses. what confused me was the mounting bracket attached to the shut off valve.
i reviewed my assy man. i have the same page. looks like the bracket attached to the shut off valve may be for other years in which the valve is mounted.

I do not have a bracket on my valve. Perhaps the suppliers have gone to a more universal fit across a number of years. Those AIMs are handy, aren't they!
