1970 LT-1 had 11:1 compression versus the 71/72 LT-1 had 9:1 compression. All LT-1's had solid lifter cams. The 1970 LT-1 is the "real" LT-1. 71/72 LT-1's had the same compression as the later L-82's (9:1) which had hydraulic cams and similar HP (around 250 Net HP for the L-82, 330 Gross HP for the 71 LT-1.
LT-1 cams also had more duration and slightly more lift, apples to apples, solid to hydraulic cam the duration for the Solid cam LT-1 is 234/239, lift .459/.485 from what I can find on the conversion factor versus the L-82 cam of 222 duration and .450/.460 lift

My understanding the diffrences in compression from the 70 LT1 to the 71 & 72 was from going from 64cc heads in 70 to 76cc heads in 71 & 72 all eles was the same ....

A 1970 LT-1 had "dome" pistons. '71-'72 had "flat-top" pistons.
