I put in a recure kit on my dist and have been having problems getting my car to start. I just went out and made sure all the electrical wires were hooked up correctly. I went to took my rotor off and the rotor turned which wouldn't be a problem but its in the car  !!! I did have the car fired up and then turned it off to fix a coolant leak. I went to fire it back up and all it did was crank. I don't have a clue how it broke but I'm pretty sure it is because its not suppose to turn by hand when its in the car.
I guess if it is broke and I have to get a new one what do you think? MSD dist and 6A box?? Don't really have the money but I've heard its a pretty good one.
If anyone has good news for me please let me know.
I took the dist out of the car. When I turn the rotor it turns the gear but when I hold the gear it still turns with no friction. Should it turn at all without moving the gear? I don't think it should.
If anyone can tell me for sure its broke, what dist should I go with?
scottw,
As posted above it`s either a broken pin through the main drive gear or a broken shaft. My advice is to put the housing in a vice and it should be easy to turn the rotor and figure out if it`s the pin or the mainshaft. I believe the roll pin is just a 1/8X7/8 standard roll pin.
