Does anyone have a diagram of the wiring system from the ignigtion switch to the starter, to the distributor/coil? I recently upgraded to an HEI ignition and replaced the starter. I need to be sure on all of my wiring before I turn up. I'm fairly sure that I can just run a new wire from the distributor(what was the coil) to the ignition switch to bypass the resistive wire that was there. Any help would be great.
hmm...well, I don't have the schematic in front of me...but...
There is one large terminal and two small terminals on the '74 Corvette starter solenoid.
The large terminal is 12 volts from the battery. The two small terminals supply voltage to the coil based on two conditions...startup and normal operation.
At startup, the "startup terminal" supplies a full 12+ volts to the ignition system when the engine needs it most. Post startup the ignition system runs on a lower primary voltage to preserve the life of the coil and points.
If converting I would recommend consulting the wiring diagram of a '75 or later Corvette. My memory fails to recall which terminal supplies the full voltage, but you can find the wiring diagram and solve that little problem.

I should mention...the resistor wire from my ignition system was putting out a full 12+ volts when I installed my system. Some work may be required if yours is fully functional
