I bought a 71 restored mod with the front & rear suspension plus rack &pin steering all from sharkbite. I feel that the rear set up is really rough. have talked to the co. for help they sent me the specks but can not tell me if I have heavy spring. the back set up is not installed right. if I take it apart to reinstall it do I order lighter coil springs with the two way adjustable shock or scrape it out and go with something else ( it looks good ). when it was installed they used spacers when mounting to the differential instead of modifying the bracket so a lot of the whole thing has been change. looking for help thanks

What shocks are on there now, duels or singles? Either way just soften them up 1st and see if that;s enough. Spring swaps are super easy with the Sharkbite. I order springs from Amazon.
I have the single valve looking at the picture where the 2 bolts and the 2 not shown that bolt to the rear end that is where they put the spacers and the eye bolt brackets clear to the out side are screwed all the way out instead of all the way in as stated in the directions this 71 is set up with high hp with a 5 speed tran I do not plan to race it but would like a softer ride are you really happy with the sharkbite ride thanks for the help
we winter in az so have no pictures with me it is rated at 500 hp I think they planed on racing it but did not handle right. when I picket it up it ran bad I worked on carb no matter what I done it would not come out of it, I put a efi on it was unbreathable the difference that made. with the 5 speed it is the fastest car I have ever drove
I would stay with the Sharkbite. May need a little tweaking, but that is a $2.000 system as the trailing arms may have been modified. It is also nice the be able to change ride height as well.

the engine builder said they have worked with fast efi they told me to make sure that I use a return line and gave me other tips I jumped to soon they are a lot cheaper now
From what you have said it sounds like there are some definite installation errors from the previous owners. These will contribute to the system not functioning properly. The rod ends you mentioned that are not fully threaded will change the geometry for the worse and the spacers on the center bracket are a bad idea as well. It may be that the rockers are installed backwards, that would definitely cause the car to ride poorly because it would increase the spring rate significantly. Some photos will be needed to figure out exactly what the problem is.
I have the 71 up on the hoist. I do not know how to put pics on here sorry. I shorting the eye bolts up, but the center bracket that says (shark bite) on it does not set flat on the back cover of the rear end. did they install the cover upside down or can it be the wrong cover or it could be the wrong bracket
There are two styles of Diff covers and two corresponding center bracket designs. The 63-77 cover (which yours should be) has the flat cut for the spring mount just behind the two bolts closest to the axles. See the photo.
63-77 Diff cover
Our bracket has a step to accommodate that cut.
Sharkbite shock mount bracket 63-77
The 78-79 diff cover requires a flat bracket with no step. It's possible that either the wrong bracket was ordered or the diff cover was changed at some point in the car's life. 63-77 covers use 9/16 bolts (13/16" hex head) were 78-79 covers use 7/16 bolts to secure that center bracket.

Here's my setup. I went with the 450 springs and double adjustables.
It rode like a dumptruck.
I installed 350 lb springs. Ride is superb now. Height adjustment piece of cake, and having adjustability on both compression and rebound gives me plenty if adjustability for both street and track.
thank you speed direct for the pics my problem has been found. I have the wrong cover, it would be easier to get the other bracket or would it be better to get the right cover. what would be the strongest, and again thanks
It is far easier to change the bracket. You'll need p/n 560-61210. Call out sales guys at 888-425-2776 and let them know that you are 71gary on this forum and they'll take care of you.
I want to thank chris f at speeddirect. for helping me get this worked out. I have a 71 with a 78 or 79 rear-end cover , so all I needed was a different bracket and taking advice from Patro 46 I took out the 500 lb. coils and order 350 lbs. speaddirect all so had the up dated head light wiring harness with the relays so that should take care of light problems working on it today the rear-end has been rebuilt because it is cleaner with new bolts and half yokes that is how this got all mixed up to start with thanks every one for helping
