Maybe some of you that run a 700r4 in your car can help me out. My trans is blow shifting from first to second gear under full throttle - { I shift manually when I'm racing } The trans is out of a 84 vette and has been rebuilt with all the hi perf. up dates. I have had other 700r4's in hi perf. applications and never seen this, I'm woundering if my trans is taking a dump? thanks, Rick
" blow shift" slang for the trans shifting to second even though the selector is still in first. for example, the 400 turbo. put the shifter in first gear hit the load pedal and the trans will shift to second even though you did not move the shifter. the 350 turbo will not do this. it will take all the rpms you wish to give it. Until lately, I didn't beleive the 700r4 would blow shift { I think the reason it got this name is because the trans build so much pressure it shifts "automatically" } what does your trans do ???
IMO, most all the 700's do that, shift 1-2 regardless of lever positiion, and really I think it's to save engines....on account of 3'1 first gear ratio....
I hear tell of trannies that are not supposed to do that, but in fact I have never seen one myself.....
my tranny does that, but when I had the valve body apart, I saw the first gear shift valves were blocked off by aluminum slugs....not moving, no springs...just all blocked off....so I dunno...wasn't part of the shift kit, apparently...
My 700r4 never shifts out of the gear I put it in up to at least 6000 rpm. I think it might be a little modified but I'm not sure. Its shift points suck otherwise (if not manual-shifting). I end up in 4th gear at 40-50 mph with normal driving (3.08 rear).
I had an art Carr racing full manual 700 and it wouldn't shift unless you did. I now have a Art Carr racing 700 that I can't put into first gear manually. I place the selector in 2nd at a dead stop and it does a 1-2 shift on it's own regulated by what govenor I have installed. I have a 6800 for racing and a 5000 for street driving.
I also have a 4.11 rear and it only stays in first for a second or so before shifting. First is very worthless even with 10 inch slicks
Had a buddy 'blow shift' my 74 Regency 98 while in 1st gear shifter position. And it never shifted into 2 again, would just rev real high in first then jump into 3rd.
