Default C3 steering column

Hi Guys,
I have a great 77 vette , I had a cooling issue due to the corosion build up in the radiator due to lack of use but it's sorted and ready for road. Since I imported the car I've had a problem with the turning signal lever . When I bought the car it worked but when I picked it up from the shipper the chrome lever was on the floor .I can't get the lever to latch properlying when I use it . I got a new lever and the plastic switch but it's just wrong. Also the telescopic movement won't lock ? It moves in and out as I drive . Thanks for bearing with the story so far .
My question is , if I got a non tilt straight column from a breakers yard what year c3 should I look for and also was this a problem for the 77 cars only ?
What would anyone advise , should I rip it up again or swap out the complete column ? I know that the puritan vette should keep it original but I just want to enjoy my car. I have it 10 years this year and it's a shame not to use it .
Would anyone have a preference at to where to get the part ?
Thanks again for reading my story !!!
Maurice.

The turn signal lever, I think you push it into opening in column and twist it to lock it into place.
The tele part needs to be readjusted. Pop off the horn button and unscrew the two small screws that butt up to the star screw. Tighten the star screw until it locks the column and screw the tele lever back onto the star screw with the lip on the lever positioned about an inch from the right side of the indentation in the hub cover.

77 is a one year only column I have heard. only old style with high-low beam switch in it. 78-up is different. fix what you have is best bet.
