I need to replace my speedometer cable(s) due to a bouncing speedo needle. My 77 auto currently has cruise control that is not working (and I have no plans to repair). Should I buy new cables to run through the existing cruise control module or would I be smarter to bypass the cruise control with new cables. If yes to bypass..... any expertise on what to buy. I'm thinking the standard set up is two cables (upper/lower)? As always - THANKS MUCH!
K, Thanks for the response. Do you have any hints/suggestions for the next guy removing the cruise control (seems like a lot of parts and vacuum tubes)? The manual indicates the upper/lower cables with cruise are 23"/52". It seems to also imply a one piece cable should be 72"..... do you recall how long you eventually needed? Thanks again.
It was a few years ago--I want to say I bought the 72" cable, thinning it would suffice...maybe it was the way I routed it (although i tried to follow the AIM), and I ended up needing the extension anyway...
As far as the rest of the pieces, for under hood, I drilled out the rivets holding the vacuum assembly in place (drilled them form the wheel well--gives you more working space with he tire off) and plugged any vac lines that were running to it (removed them, really, and plugged at the source)...
under dash, I replaced the brake light switch with a non crusie switch, and cut/removed the wiring that controlled the crusie circuit/switch...
