I'm trying to decide what brake fluid to run in my '69. My local Corvette guru insists that DOT 5 silicone fluid is the only way to go. It doesn't mess up your paint, and it doesn't absorb moisture. However, it's very expensive and harder to find. Also, I'm reading that even though it doesn't aborb moisture, if moisture gets into your system the bubbles will "puddle" in one place, possibly causing corrosion in that location. I've also heard that DOT5 is slightly compressible (giving a very slightly soft pedal), and has a lower boiling point than DOT4.
At this point I'm leaning towards Castrol GT LMA, which is a DOT 4 fluid. Are any of you guys running this? Good experiences, bad? Thoughts, opinions?
I have only had my vette for 2 years and haven't done much, but in my research, I see where a lot of guys do a yearly flush of their break fluid. If you do this, it wouldn't be worth the diff in cost of the higher fluid. I plan to do this using Ford  blue Break fluid which a lot of the restoration books recommend.
