Default u-joints 1980

I've seen several listings that state drive shafts on an '80 vette are different transmission vs Diff ends, one being spicer 1310 and the other 1330. However, I just pulled mine off and they both meet the 1310 dimension (1.0625 cup, 3.220 width). Does this sound correct? I bought the car new and while the half shaft u-joints were replaced at one time (they are the 1330's given the 3.625 width), the drive shaft joints should all be original.

Yes 1310 on the '80 driveshaft is correct.

If you have a manual transmission the half shafts u-joints will be 1350s.

An automatic will have the smaller 1330s.

How's the rear end work going Vince vette 2?

Thanks for the confirmation.

I assume you meant the smaller 1330's on the half shafts - mine is an automatic and that's what I measured them to be.

The rear end is out and just sitting on a bench for now. In the interest of time I've decided to have a standard rebuild done on it. Then I can take my time collecting all the parts to swap it to an Eaton in a couple year. Not a cost effective decision nor the least work as it means pulling it all out again in a few years. But it will have me back on the road this spring, and at 59 hopefully I'll retire in a couple years and can spend more time on it.

I am curious though, I pulled the bolts our of the bearing caps and the caps are stuck pretty well to the housing, is there a trick to getting them to come out, or does it just take a good whack? I only want to pull the driver's so I can dimension it in the event I want to have a replacement steel unit made.

Yep damn bro. I misspoke. I'll correct it before I catch hell.

That I can't answer. I have worked on a lot of mechanical things but I leave the rear end gear work to the experts.

By the way I just turned 60. Retired early and I'm loving it.

Guys who retire and can't find something to do don't own a vette (or shouldn't)
