Mine came with a 5 blade from the factory. In the mid '70s my water pump front bearing decided to seize at 6000 rpm.
The pump shaft twisted off and the fan went thru the rad.

I tried ordering the 5 blade from GM, however it kept being substituted with the 7 blade.
So, I gave up ordering and used the 7 blade.
Still there today.

when i got mine the blades were bent (curved)so idecided to remove and straighten them . put it back on, now it hits the shroud.this is why i think i have the wrong fan. I think one of the other owners bent it so it would fit.any one out there with the same set up as me please reply
thanks Don

Hey Don, Knowing the car don't count out poor body work. If the front end is "sagging" over the frame this might be the cause of the fan hitting the shroud. I don't think the diameter is any different between a 5 and 7 blade fan but I could be wrong. Mine is a 5 blade but I know my shroud is different from yours.

I took all the time to clean this fan up and painted it black and then decided to paint the blades silver. Now I am not so sure I like it that much. But here it is my 5 blade fan. This is out of a 70 model with 350/300 4-speed.

Hey gordon you may have a point. But if i put the shroud in so it just sits on the crossmember with the fan inside it and spin the fan by hand it hits the shroud. anyone out there selling a 5 blade fan?

Don, I just checked my shroud and it does not rest on the crossmember. It is close but does not rest on it. I would put in the Rad support and rest the radiator in there and mount the fan and shroud to see where it is going to really sit. It might sit a little higher and clear the fan. I would still get the correct fan for your car anyway.

My 70 350/350 w/ac,ps,pb has a seven blade fan. Looking in the Parts Catalog, a 70 with or with ac is listed as seven blade at is 17 1/2 around. 63-68 is listed as being 18". One more note, what about the motor mounts. There are different sizes for different cars(in height).

The 7 blade was used for cars with A/C and the 5 blade went on cars without A/C.

Don't know for '70 but the '73 five blade fan was 17.5".
