Rethinking my winter engine project strategy
I am going to send my trailing arms off and get new offset ones with new bearings etc...
After that, I was planning on putting TPI from an 89 vette and only replacing the cam as far as engine work. I was going to pull the engine since I have a main seal leak and I don't know the status of the main bearings.
I figure that this will cost me about $1000 when all is said and done.
Now I am thinking that if I am going to pull the engine, I may as well spend that much or a little more to build it up and make sure that everything is solid and then down the road go to fuel injection.
If I am going to build it up, it's probably going to be a 383 for low end torque, but $$$ will be the real issue.
Any comments???
Thanks for any and all advice.
I agree with your strategy to build motor first, then go TPI.
BTW, SOME of those bargain ($100 < $200) aftermarket 383 Cast External-balance cranks ain't such a bargain. SOME have very creative counterweight finishing (aka hacked) that results in a balancing bill $ 2-3 times $ what it should be. IMHO after balancing's factored in, a good Forged 383 Internal-balance crank may cost only $100 - $200 more in the end.
