There are the HID lights which require a separte ballast, LED which are self contained but get very hot and if not matched to a good glass headlamp they light up the universe, you"ll know who did this as sson as they come at you. And the sealed beam halogens.
Dont forget you'll need a new 100 amp alternator
for example

i bought one like this

expensive but everything is there

You'll want to upgrade your harness for the increased power and heat that all of these produce. You can just buy the the plug and play pig tails that add ceraminc plugs to the end of your system but dont upgrade the rest of the system or you can build or buy a harness that plugs into your harness and uses your existing system to activate relays that are connected to your battery for more power and brighter lights
I bought a harness from ecklers I believe insstead of building it.
heres some stories to help. The super chevy glosses over some ways to do it
