I've read thru a few of the threads on this so I probably know the answer I just don't want to admit it to myself , can someone confirm for me ?
I've been cleaning the underside of my car getting ready for new brakes and noticed that I have a leak from the valve ! I've also noticed that the only place that it leaks is missing the cap !
Is it because the cap is missing or is the cap only there to keep out contaminants and is this why it is leaking?
The cap is just for dust & road grime. You have an internal leak past the seals on the C.V.
Willcox and others have a rebuild kit for the valve. Willcox has a "How To Do It" video.
Is your brake hose the correct one? Looks too short, tight, stressed.
Maybe not.

Thanks HeadsU.P , I was afraid that would be the answer!
I'm sure just about everyone has experienced that I know the answer but you don't want to admit it thing!
I've seen the video from Willcox so I know what I have to do now !
The brake hose is new and a little tight but just for the pic ! The calipers aren't bolted in while I was sandblasting all the metal and I moved it out of the way to take the pic ! When I took the pic the wheel was turned full right so the caliper was just hanging pulling the hose tight like that !
Now I know I have to fix that before I finish the brakes while there is plenty of room!
There was a sizable number of forum posts about being disappointed with the durability of their PS CV rebuild. Premature leaks. So, I ended up going with a new one for that reason
Two things I dislike dealing with on a car more than anything:
power steering rack stuff, including inner tie rods (shudders) and those two seals under the shaft...
.
..
...
....And thats it just that one thing
Its gotten to the point I won't even buy a car if the rack looks like shiat.
My parts car still has the cap so that's not a problem ! In fact I may just switch out control valves but I'm going to have to test the other first ! I don't think there is any fluid in the pump or valve !

Mine looks like someone replaced everything but then it was parked in the dirt for an unknown amount of time and then it sat inside a body shop for about five years!
While I'm here can anyone tell me if I'm going to have to do a front end alignment after fixing this ?
Thanks for any help !
Hi Ray,
The short answer is no...but that would really only apply if you know for a fact your alignment is dialed in prior to undertaking that job. If you do not know where your current alignment stands, then I would absolutely check the alignment.

Steering wheel sits straight, car run slow straight even on the worst 2 hundred feet of blacktop you'll ever see ! I was hoping that it wouldn't!
