I thought, that's a lot of lift for a small block. Then I read your username. So it's a big block. Tach drive needed? Or is it a big block in the 75 or newer car? https://www.ebay.com/p/Chevy-V8-Hei-...42270593&rt=nc.

yes, tach drive. I currently have the MSD 8571 and looking for the 8572 with the vac advance. Depending on what I can find price wise will determine the switch.

I switched to an HEI unit with the vac advance connected to manifold vacuum. It is not tach drive and instead of fixing the broken cable I just converted my tach to a later year electronic one so I never have to deal with a cable again.
you are lucky getting 12 in of vacuum, I am only getting 9 and my brakes become a little iffy at idle speeds sometimes. going to go hydroboost.
