78 fuel gauge issue
Hello, I read all the Willcox testing articles however didn’t see this issue mentioned. Everything with the gauge seems to work fine as far as the gauge reading full when the tank is full, half when the tank is half full and empty when the tank is empty HOWEVER, when the car is in motion and the gas is moving up and down in the tank, the gauge is sensing those sudden level changes and swinging back and forth until I come to a stop. When the gas level in the tank settles out so does the gauge reading. It’s way to responsive. Is the sending unit bad with the float possibly flopping around too easily? Shouldn’t there be some sort of buffering?

Hello, I believe I just had my question answered by Willcox Support. They said most likely the dampening fluid dried up in the gauge. I wasn’t aware there was dampening fluid in the gauge but that would make sense.
