I am looking to buy a 72' Convt..I have found a 72' LS5 Convt-4sp..It seems to be in good condtion (1-10) a solid 6...I can buy this car for 13000.00...What should I be aware of??? Please help
Do the numbers match. Can you do the mechanical work (at that price it needs something). Is the body straight, check for frame rust. How much are you willing to put into the car. Do you just want a solid driver?
Find somebody who really knows these cars, and have them go with you to look at it. Offer to buy dinner afterwards. That's a hell of a lot cheap than a frame-off or a suspension rebuild.
Thanks!
Engine #'s match..Trans #'s don't....Owner currently uses it as a daily driver...Needs interior work(all there) all gauges, vacuum system work.Missing factory radio..Will need paint...Top in good condition..Has recored the radiator, new clutch, replaced all suspension rubber and replaced rear joints..Drives real straight (not a rattle trap)...I have about a 23000.00 budget for a car(and time)..What do you think?? This will be my first Corvette
Sounds great! Still important to do your due diligence, but a 72 bigblock convertible is a great place to start and sounds like this is a very good platform at a price that is either very reasonable or maybe even better. (What color is it?) I am surprised you figured out (or were told) transmission is not original to the car. MJ
at that price....and $10k for upgrades, you probably can get one already
restored for around $20k...but, do you want to shop around or is it:
"gotta have it now" ? tough call.
Have someone thoroughly check the frame for you. If it's rusted it'll be big bucks to repair. Take a mechanic with you to look it over. Even if you have to pay them, it'd be worth it.

When I was looking saw a lot of cosmetically "pretty" vettes but most had rusting/rotten frames. If rust there or in window frames these are big $ items.
One issue on the car is the owner has never been able to line the hood seams up exactly...Owner has owned the car since 94'..Never been hit that he is aware of...I know seams on old classics aren't perfect..Is this common??
