"Can I put a 700 horsepower in it?"
For a short time, yes.
Most will recommend beefing the diff up at any point above about 400fwhp. Frame welds will all need to be checked and finished (GM didn't fully weld most areas, just spots). Beefier/rebuilt trailing arms, axles, half shafts, etc. They're not really up to that much power without some work unless all you plan to run are non-sticky street tires.

Just another Corvette guy
You should be good up to 5 horsepower less than this.

Use as much HP as you wish - simply moderate the use of your right foot. I looked at the highest power combo that GM offered (L88) and used that as a 'yardstick' as to what power could be put through the car - accordingly my 489 cu in engine (running through a M21 and 3.08 rear) has been dyno'd at 570 bhp and 606 ft/lbs tq. With modern 285/40/18 radials on rear end after 5 or 6 years its still all holding together. Whilst I do drive hard at times I am still 'respectful' - so no 'dropping' of clutches or super sticky surface drag starts............

My mechanic told me Vortech heads, Edelbrock intake, mild cam would add 100 hp on my 79 L48. If you have 15000 to play with you could buy another c3.

I'm I'm wondering if 15K would even take care of the tranny and beefing up the rear end and whatever I have to do to after I put a 700 horsepower in it
