Default Stomping it

When I stomp it I don't shift until 6500 rpm as I believe I have a stock engine this concerns me (don't want to blow motor) I changed the detent cable and adjusted it per manual and still no difference. I don't know if a shift kit has been installed or not. I also replaced the modulator valve any ideas how I can get the shift down to 5000 rpm. otherwise shifts perfectly

You prolly put an adjustable modulator in there, you just need to adjust it to whatever you want it to shift at. There is a screw in the part where the vac hose goes on, I think it is screw it in for lower shift point but not sure. It should have come with instructions.

Are you sure your tach is reading correctly? The reason I say this is that a stock L-48 will have fallen on it's face long before 6500rpm. I'd varify this before changing something that may be fine.
