I need to know what was the factory setup for holding the valance (front air dam(scoop)) up?
Mine has nothing to hold up the center of it. I have seen the bracket that is on the 80, is this what it is supposed to have???
I sure am getting tired of trying to tie or zip tie it up, and it is really getting scuffed up when it comes loose and drags the pavement :cry
I couldn't find any pics of it in the AIM to illustrate what I need...
Desertdawg,
I was wondering the same thing. I'm in the process of replacing mine but can't figure the front mounting scheme. If you get any pictures please post.
Yep, I had the same problem. Mine was bent, and not connected to the
spoiler. Just had it fixed. My mechanic straightened it out, bolted it to the
spoiler, and no more scraping! :yesnod:
This is a very hard item to come across. You may want to try a Corvette
used parts vendor or salvage yard.

I also had the same problem, must be very common. One word of advice, do not let your wife drive the car with out you in it, they will pull up so far the front spoiler will turn into a street sweeping device!
my 81 and 82 are/were both bent. I would like to see a pic posted of the attachment, from the factory, just to be sure. I think the air dam is held up by the bracket...correct? Anyone got a pic they could post, I would appreciate it, at least I can get it close to what it should be. :smash: thanks
I had the same problem. I bought a repro frame extension and replaced the bent original. I guess the front tow hook is the first thing that hits a parking divider and then bends upward. I had to modify the repro because the air dam bracket was way too high. I got the spoiler correctly aligned after welding a new bracket even with the bottom of teh tow hook, similar to teh original design. It works great now. Gotta be careful when parking, though! I still have the original frame extension and am saving it for a spare part because it is repairable. I don't think the original version is made any more. :chevy
Here are 3 pictures I just took of my 82. The bracket was originally bent REAL bad. I cut it off , straightened & reinforced it. I also made it a "bolt on" arraingment, just in case of a lapse in distance judgment :) :)
Hey Jim, that is what I am looking for...( I know no-one will have a spare lying around) so your pics will help me a bunch in trying to make one
Do you have any other pics, or some dimensions that I could go by
Jim,
Thanks, you the man  exactly what I was looking for. I had no idea how it was originally mine is so mangled. What a great idea to make it a bolt on. I'm going to be doing the same to mine. Thanks again!
