So I have gotten flat-bedded home for the third time in under a year or less then 1K miles. So I have checked and monitored the voltage going to the module from the ignition. Replaced all electrical components in the distributor, checked play and can't find anything wrong.
I am wanting to replace this BS HEI distributor and get something else. Any suggestions on how to fix this?

I used a Pertronix flame thrower kit from Jegs, with all replacement parts. I did that after the 2nd failure. The first fail was right after I got this car, didn't think much of it. Then the 2nd fail and I did the above replacement. Now not even 250 miles later it failed again.
Nope did mot test anything, just replaced parts.
Stock NGK pre gaped plugs.
I checked a couple new FR5. They were both .040, so probably not the issue.
You might try a post on Speedtalk.com in the engine section. There are some good guys over there with big brains, and lots of other good info there if you like engines.

I fought the same problem for months. The correct "grease" is important. I fried a module by using the wrong white "grease". Does the spark plug wire throw a long blue spark when near the tip of the spark plug? A weak coil will produce a yellow spark.

Yes a nice blue spark, as for the grease, I used what came with the module and lots of it.
The coil was part of the Pertronix kit. Everything new in the distributor.
We have another thread going on a similar issue. Go back in there with the original GM Delco parts and trash those Flamethrower parts. Start there and see if it goes away. Worked for me.

Thanks.
Right now I am replacing the distributor with an Autozone model just to get the car going again until I decide what to do. The Delco one is an option and actually is what Autozone had in stock so guess that's a start.
Make sure the TACH wire is not grounded out anywhere from the plug in at the distributor to tach.
One time on a 350 I had a tach wire grounding out on the back of the left head. The tach would still always work fine, but it would burn brand new modules out every 2-3 weeks.....I was carrying spares in the glove box. Eventually I found the tach wire had soldered itself to the head.....
