My 79s headlights go up with good vacuum and lights work most of the time but the last two times I had the car running while talking to someone just the headlights go out. Then the "brights" light on the cluster comes on and stays. All other lights work fine . Second time this happened in a month. A fuse, switch, loose connection somewhere? Any info is appreciated. Also I did put led bulbs in for the front fog and side marker lights that work and I did change out those fuses. Could there be a relation to this problem?
Does it happen only when the brights are on?
The only circuit protection for the headlights is a thermal switch in the headlight switch itself. When too much current flows through this thermo switch it heats up and opens the contacts. As soon as it cools off it closes again. This can cause the "blinking" headlights problem.
Did you recently replace your lamps? If you installed Halogen lamps they draw more current because they are higher wattage than the original sealed beams.

Thanks for the reply theandies,
I did replace my dash about a month ago and did touch the switch to obviously fit it back into the new dash. Maybe i was too aggressive with the switch itself? I bought the cars 3 years ago I never replaced the lamps for the headlights but I'm not sure if the previous owner replaced the lamps ,they worked fine since I had the car.The headlights went out randomly without the brights being on or me clicking the switch for the brights.

IF it persists I would check the grounds in your dash. With the lights going out, and the bright light coming on its an indicator of electricity looking for an alternate path to ground and it looks like its trying to go through that bright bulb. Could be a loose connection as well. I would recheck the headlight switch for its ground as well since you disturbed it but didnt remove or replace it.
