What are these?

One pic was taken under the dash on the drivers side. It has a place for 2 wires going into it, but only one is connected. The other pics are in the console, the black one is a flasher I just plugged in, but don't know what the one thing looks like that has brown crud on it. Anybody know? Thanks

The LED flasher I just installed
