Default Side pipes on a 400 SB

Hello guys,

I want to put side pipes on my '72 non-matching Corvette which has a 400 small block on it. I've seen so many adverts of OBX headers and side pipes which can be fitted on all chevy small blocks including 400.

I have the chance to buy a second hand side pipes and these exhaust were fitted on a '68 327 C3. They need some TLC but here in Europe they are quite rare to find them. The seller wants to sell the headers + side tubes and he wants me to make an offer.

My questions are:

      Regards,

If they fit the 327 they should fit the 400 unless a very different set of heads is used on the 400. The dimensions of the 327 and 400 are the same. As for cost depends on condition.

My 79 has a 400 with OBX headers and side pipes. I've had them on for four years now and they're holding up well.

Thanks a lot for the reply. I will make a sensible offer but if he doesn't want to sell it for that price I will have a look to an american UK dealer I just found.

      Cheers.

Can you share the name of the UK dealer? I'm also in Europe and can be handy.

I am from Spain too! Of course, the website I found is: http://www.americanmotorfactors.com, I am having a look to the Doug's side exhaust kit.

      Thanks for the link.
I decided on rear exhaust and went with Doug's D334 for the headers.

On this same note, does anyone make side pipes that look like the factory ones. It seems like every vette I see with aftermarket side pipes don't look anywhere near stock

I don't know anyone who can make them but as far as I know they just made factory side pipes for the 68 vette and they were nothing compared with the style that brands like Doug or OBX are selling.

You can buy the factory style covers as reproductions. I think the pipes are available too, but if not they could be easily made by a muffler shop since the covers hide them.
