I have a 73 and my windshield washers do not work, and it failed the safety check to change ownership until I get them fixed. I ordered a new windshield washer rebuild kit, and two new washer arms that are fixed to the wiper blades.
I replaced the rebuild kit, put the waher arms on and connected it all up. Still would not pump fluid to the wipres. When I was rebuilding the washer part of the motor assembly, I noticed when I do push the windshield washer on the dash when powered that the pump was moving the internal sleeve in the motor up and down, so I don't know why with new seals and diaphragm why it will not start flowing fluid. Is it possible to hook a mini electric pump to the washer connection that is energized when pushed on the dash a basically turn it to an electric washer vs. a vacuum, or do you have any other suggestions
did you try priming the pump by removing the washer bottle and holding it higher than the pump?
You could also try applying a light coat of grease on the rubber components to help seal them.
You could try a electric pump but would have to constantly hold you finger on the washer button.

No I didn't try that and will. Do you happen to know what terminals on the wiper motor I can bite into if I need to so when I push the washer button on the dash it will power the little pump?
Thanks very much for the much appreciated response.
Did you check the WW tank hose filter on the end to see if it is blocked? These were on the 73's originally. If your wipers haven't worked for a while it might be. Can you hear the pump running when you turn on the switch? Also check to make sure hoses are connected correctly. WW bottle hose goes in the center. Just sayin! It happens. I guess from what you describe you no longer have the original metal washer tubes on your arms? The little plastic hose connector at the ends of the arms (with little spring clamps) may also be blocked? Pictured below is the WW hose in tank filter.
The second photo is the pump installed so you can see the wiring connectors. The yellow arrow points to the yellow wire on the pump cover and the other side has a dark blue wire connected. I would imagine these run the pump. The other wires are coming thru the firewall from the dash controls. Third photo I have the arrows showing where the dark blue and yellow wire (note yellow dot) are connected to the pump. The last pic is the wire diagram for the 73. These photos are from my 73 wiper motor.
Hope they help, good luck

Thank you very much for the valuable information and the pictures showing what you are saying, and mostly the wiring diagram. I will check it out and hopefully get them to work so I can pass the stupid safety check to get plates.
