Default C2 4.11 rear into a 79 C3?

I've got a chance to buy a 4.11 rear from a 64 C2. I'm wanting it for my 79 with 700r4. I'm told I need offset ujoints for the half shafts but everything else is plug and play. Does this sound correct? And can someone point me in the right direction for these u joints? Please let me know if you see any other issues I may encounter. Thanks for any help.

Update: Will a 1310 to 1330 combination u joint work?

1310 is the size of the 63 pinion, your 79 is a 1330 and better then a 1310. Your diff is also a LOT better then any stock original 63-64 diff. I have a 64 diff in house now, all original with the weak Dana posi, weak pinion gear, and absolete pinion yoke.

I have no stake in this, not knowing either party, if I had a 79 and wanted 411's I would build it to the proper application and use Tom's 411's made to use with a 3 series case.

Good luck, if you drop the hammer on a stock 63-64 diff enough it will break the posi in 1/2.

Well that stinks. I've done pulled the trigger on the 64. Seller said he thinks its been rebuilt because it looks so new on the inside. Whats the chance its been upgraded on the rebuild? I'm running a 383 and don't do any track but do enjoy spirited driving from time to time. Think its worth installing?

I would open it up and look close. I have threads posted online with a lot of pictures on inspecting a vette differential. Look it up and it will help you. If it was rebuilt with a Eaton posi that is good but which one, 65-68 or 69-79? The 69-79 are a lot better. The parts from a Dana won't work in the Eaton so it would have Eaton spiders too.

Post up some pictures I'll take a look for you.

Update: I was able to backout of the 64 4.11 deal. Now I'm a little more educated on things. I'm not really wanting to build from what I have. I would rather just buy a complete rear and swap them out. Any tips on this would be great. And thanks for all the help.

The pictured differential is an original 63-4 style with Dana posi, 5 line cap bolts, and most likely original R&P. There are no parts to rebuild the posi, the R&P should be replaced, as will the pinion yoke. I would not use it as is.

Buying a used differential usually will require work. You may find some in decent shape. If it was rebuilt you should ask for information as to who rebuilt it and how. What parts were used, what is the axle endplay, are there pictures, report?

I got out of the deal so I'm back looking for a 4.11. I know Zip Corvette sells rebuilds. I don't want to rebuild my 3.55 I would rather just buy a 4.11 and swap them.
