I am getting ready to install the new ( finally ) weatherstripping in my 78. I know this one has been done many times. Does anybody have any tips?
I have the remover, tools, and adhesive. Thanks in advance.
The only problem I had when weatherstripping my car was with the T Top weatherstripping. No matter what I did the weatherstrip would curl at the centerbar when I put the tops on because it was fatter than the old weatherstrip. I ended up putting the tops on without the center fasteners and then installed the fasteners to pull the tops down. After a few weeks it was OK but very frustrating in the beginning.

same deal with mine I used rivets in the strips going up on the windshield instead of screws though.
Come on up this morning if you want to. Joe and I are doing the install today. My wife is due to have the baby any day, so I've been keeping this one low key. BTW, did you change out your wheels? Want to sell the origonals?
Just did my 81 a couple months ago. Removing and doing the prep work took longer than actually putting on the new weatherstrip. This being my 1st time at this I took my time and did it during a weekend. I was/am frustrated with the seal in several places, ie around the top of windows and t-top. I have read previous threads and realize others have had the same window sealing problem. I also feel that maybe the weatherstrip I bought was too rigid, not sure, but my opinion. Watch out with the adhesive, it can be real messy if you are not careful! :flag

Brian,

Sorry, I can't come up, I've got a lot of other things on the "to do" list like getting the car ready for emissions testing. Smog pump and all that need to go back on the car.
Yeah, I swapped wheels. For now I am keeping the originals unless someone gives me a super offer for them. Like $600 for the set or something like that. I wanna keep them but don't plan to use them.
Well, everbody always says to let people know how it went.........
it all went well, lots of scraping and spraying but it all fit in very well.
2 problems. 2 of the screws holding the weatherstrip in the passenger's t-top are rusted and frozen. Almost have rounded out the phillips, oh well.
Also need to adjust the window in and slightly up to set into the grooves in the strip just perfect.
Thanks to all for the help, another project almost done.
