From a previous post of the on going problem of adjusting my rockers I believe the suggestion that I have solid lifters and not hydraulics is the problem. Since I dont have the camshaft spec for my engine is there a nominal gap for setting the lifters I should use i.e. .002/3/ 4
I would set initially at about .020 then play around with it.......if it is really noisy....you may have a tight lash grind which likes about .015-.016.......if it sounds ok......then open it to .026 as stated above.....026 is used on many high lift/duration solids....the exhaust should go .028 for expansion.

you should be able to tell by tightening the push rods.....tighten it unitl there is no slop .....and see how far you can tighten it further....a flat tappet lifter will hit zero lash and no more movement pretty quick.....a hydraulic lifter you can depress a lot more before it bottoms out.
I bet a solid lifter would have no more then 1/4 of turn after it hits zero lash.

the OP in another thread was given a method of determining solid vs hydraulic by Lars. I infer from this thread he performed the suggested test and determined it is solid.
