It hasn't been started in 18 years.I put in a new battery and new plugs and wires. It turned over 6 or 7 times and haven't got it turn over again. Think there might be a ground somewhere or something else electrical going on .I read that in the owners manual about sitting in the seat with the seat belt on and trying to start it.I had the starter rebuilt. Need to see if it is getting 12 volts from the battery. Thanks

got it....
so to make the engine crank you need a strong battery, good electrical connections both positive and ground, a good ground going to the engine.....a solenoid on top of starter that works, a starter that spins, ignition switch that works, neutral safety switch (clutch or auto version)
you can hook a battery directly up to the starter to make a starter spin
BUT if the engine hasn't run in 18 years, change the oil and filter , pull the distributor and prime the oil pump with a drive tool hooked up to a drill.
