Default Engine opinions please

Anyone with opinion, knowledge please chime in. Precision engine builders out of Houston Texas(www.newengineparts.com on the web) say they can build me a 350 four bolt main long block for $1262 dollars putting out 350HP.
Stock crank, speed pro hypereutectic pistons, connecting rods?(forgot to ask like a dummy), speed pro duel pattern cam duration 229 and 220 lift 465 and 488, iron heads with port job and 2.02 stainless valves, double roller timing chain. Balanced assembly. 9.2 to 1 compression ratio. Comes with oil pan, timing chain cover and valve covers.
Does this sound good? Does it sound like a 350HP engine. Says can go to 400 with cam change but would have very rough idle. Can use the 350HP cam and do more port work as well. Would put edlebrock performer manifold, street avenger 625 cfm carb, and headers. I was thinking this was a good start with possible upgrade to aluminum heads later. They say this engine would easily withstand a 125hp nos shot as well. I can have one delivered for free since I live close to Houston and within a couple of days if I like. What do you think?

IF the engine is as advertised, that's a GOOD price, for a longblock...

it's the same as what you'd pay for a shortblock with cam...usually...

makes me wonder....does it have factory roller lifters???

Sounds too good to me. Wait till you hear some postitive feedback about the company before ordering would be my suggestion.

I assume the good price is because it is built with solid parts but nothing real exotic, so I would think not on the roller lifters. I plan to get a better parts run down on it tommorrow. Summit sells rebuild kits with hypereutectic pistons in that compression range starting at $199. On their web site, I believe a stock long block goes for $895 or so. I figure the other $400 for this application is cam, and head work and bigger valves. He says he sells this package so well that he keeps about 5 in stock at the 330HP rating. They also do 383 strokers and use the big name parts for those such as eagle rods, forged pistons etc. Short blocks start at $2195. I'm going to get more info on all the pieces on this engine and hopefully hear from someone who has used this company. Thanks

That's a good price ... and since the parts assessment is likely ... a believable price.

Also keep in mind, GM sells a NEW low-performance 350ci crate for about $1500-$1600 ... it has less cam & smaller valves. 3-year/50K mile GM Goodwrench warranty. P/N 10067353

Quote: The Goodwrench replacement engine is an ideal power plant for a performance enthusiast working on a budget. The 350ci Goodwrench small-block is assembled with all new components. It has an 8.5:1 compression ratio, four-bolt main bearing caps, a cast nodular iron crankshaft, and a hydraulic camshaft. The cylinder heads have 1.94" intake valves and 1.50" exhaust valves. The Goodwrench engine is a complete assembly, less intake and exhaust manifolds, torsional damper, water pump, pulleys, distributor, spark plugs, flywheel, clutch, and components. Includes: Timing cover, oil pan, and valve covers.

When equipped with a GM Performance Parts aluminum intake manifold, ignition system, and chromed accessories, a Goodwrench engine can provide exceptional performance in a street rod, street machine, pleasure boat, or truck. Approximate horsepower is 250 HP depending on how it is equipped.
