knocking in the back - diagnosis
The TA's were rebuilt including the ebrakes. Since the noise was there before that and still is, then it's unlikely to be that. I've removed almost everything from the storage compartments, including the plastic liners and I've shoved old socks and stuff around the privacy screen to keep it still.
I've been avoiding the idea of running it with rear wheels off the ground, but I think I'm at that point. I've found that a 3/4" wood block with a small shim fits just right under the TA when the car is on the ground. So, that' may be this weekend's project.
If you do run the car with the wheels off the ground, be sure to block under the trailing arms. If the wheels are hanging, you will wreck your U-joints, and there will be no question what the noise is then.

Be safe!

diff mount bushings?
loose upper shock mount(s)?
shocks incorrect? (Eyes too big)
did a cap fall off a u joint
Since the noise was not present during the tires off the ground test, could it something as weird as the tires? Check for a tread bulge or a partially separated tread face. Possible broken belts inside the tire. Maybe break them down and have a look inside for defects.

Everything else in the back is new - all suspension and driveline related bushings, u-joints, shocks (QA1's), etc. Tires will be replaced this weekend, so that will get covered then.
As for Carlisle, here's a photo of my car there for the first time in couple decades. And it's as far from home, about 20 miles, as it's been since about 2004.
That silver plate after cleaning above exhaust...two bolts tight but needed to remove and bendso its tight.. Also put air in spare , looks like never removed in 40 years
I did mention in the other post on exhaust did take care of a lot of noise..now its quiet enough to hear another knocking noise!
i think i gotthat one too. Its that greasy plate under differential , hell its actually aluminum i think after cleaning? It was rattle knocking on the strut bolt area..off clean and bend so far so good. Was not a noise i could make happen driving though, just idle at a frequency..
lol
heat shields exhaust, vacuum motors..last moist i hear now are springs creaking..
i also got this scrap of paper from on top of plate under differential..is this part of a build tag sheet?

That scrap of paper is definitely part of the build sheet. I found mine still attached and almost 100% intact on top of the gas tank where it had been for about 38 years.
Here's a photo
Here is what I first saw, a section hanging over the gas tank
whole sheet

well after cleaning spare tire and that rattle, i just figured my car the jack was missing in one of the 3 storage areas...til i realized from video below where it was.......well the wrench part has a rubber donut on it...and after taking out and cleaning and reinstalling with spring, i think i found my thumping..it was not laying on bottom but in air hitting the bottom back tub...holy cow i hope that was it....check or remove your jack??
