Default They Call Me Bubba...

My channel lock pliers were mia for two weeks... found them yesterday wedged between the block and the alternator bracket. After an intake and carb were installed, the last thing I wanted to do was remove the heat shield on the exhaust manifold. During this process I misplaced the pliers. I looked everywhere for them, including the frig (figured maybe as I was taking out a beer, I put the pliers in its place on the shelf). Last nite while brushing the manifolds with that silver paint like goop, I saw a red handle looking back at me :yesnod: WOW! Thar's my pliers! After 2 weeks of being trapped under the hood, the only damage was to the pliers themselves, part of the red rubber handle cover was stripped off. Is there a moral to this story? Not really

Well ,at least you found them.
I hate it when I leave a tool behind, and realize that I did it about
2 weeks later. Go looking, and it is gone - dropped on the street somewhere.

I lost a socket that way once, but never again. Planning on purchasing one of those magnetic stainless bowls to hold small tools, bolts, etc.

I did that with my 5/8" craftsman wrench. After doing a bunch of engine work I couldn't find that thing anywhere, eventually I gave up on it. Drove it for a week around town and decided it was time to go give it a run. Went down the interstate to my favorite onramp (read deserted and LONG). Gave it a good WOT launch from stopped. The rear end squats and I hear a loud PING! and the sound of a metal object bouncing on the road... just  and :D all the way down the onramp cause I knew exactly what it was lol! You see... by this time I had dropped them darn wrenches on the ground like 800,000 times so I knew that sound well. That wrench served a good purpose (to build up the hp in my engine) and I hope someone found it and gave it a good home

My wife found a spark plug gapper in the couch last fall (sat a minute to watch a football game and I must have dropped it). Couldn't find that thing to save my soul. Finally ran to the auto parts store and bought a new one.

I like you guys that lose track of your tools.I have collected a number of misfits over the years. It is almost a good as finding cash on the side of the road. :)
BTW apple 76. Maybe the moral of the story has something to do with alchol and brain cells.

Don't sweat it. I nearly pulled out of the garage tonight, with the car still on the floor jack.

I had one foot in the car, when I realized the front end looked mighty high.

Oooops. :smash:

While removing the l-48 my 1/2" ratchet disappeared. Absolutely gone. My friend and I looked everywhere in the car and garage but it was nowhere to be found. Several weeks later it was bugging me so I sat down and tried to imagine the last time I had used it.

Hmmm.... I don't think I saw it after the engine came out. Don't suppose it could be..... Nah.

*grabs phone* Hey Chad, it's Matt. Go out to your garage and take the intake manifold off the l-48. "Uhhh okay."

A few minutes later:

"So that's where your ratchet went."

That's bad, bubba. But not as bad as the guy who drove away with his kid in an infant seat on top of the car. Kid fell off at speed and was OK. I forget where, but about 9 months ago.
Right now I am looking for a missing electric impact wrench.

Here's another funny one - but not a tool and not my vette:

I was working on the vette one weekend a few weeks ago. I promised
to take the boys fishing for a while, so I grabbed my coffe cup and the
digital camera. We piled into the '88 Blazer and headed down the store
for some worms (~1/4 mile with stops and turns).

When we pulled up to the store, I noticed something on the windshield
of the truck. I hopped out, and there they were: my full coffee mug and my
digital camera were sitting on the hood ! The coffee had splashed out onto
the windshield. I said some words of thanks, and bought a tub of worms.

Same truck: The wife was talking on the cordless phone one day, and she
needed to go for a long ride with a friend to Concord (~ 1.5 hour drive).
When she got there, she was talking to her friend by the back of her Blazer.
There, sitting on the back bumper was the cordless phone !! Lucky again !

Sometimes I believe the wrenches are just hiding because you can't find them anywhere the suddenly they show up on the work bench a week later.
