76 350 sbc 882 head question
Need advice on raising compression ratio: Deck the block and/or use dome pistons? Trying to get to 10 to 1. Other side of the issue is using 882 heads or use different heads. Budget ltds the options...thks for any advice.

The best budget option would be to find a set of c4 aluminum heads with 58cc chambers. I saw this mod on a late 70's Camaro. With just a head change(stock cam) it picked up a second in the quarter mile.

Heads, intake and cam.....along with a curved distributor.......
Compression is function of these changes but not a critical factor but always a bonus.
FYI......1 point of compression is worth about 15 horsepower and 15 ft/lbs. torque across the board....apples to apples. Do not get hung up on it.
I run a 10.5 to 1 engine because it complimented the large overlap on the cam and it sounds great.
The heads alone will give you 10 to 1......but everything else working in tandem will unleash big gains. You CAN work a stock 350 in a Vette to be quite a stomper with the right choice of parts.
Have fun.

If I have the block decked to "zero" with flat tops bored .040 and those 76 cc heads what could I expect? ….or stock deck and pop ups what then and how much dome can be run with those heads? Plan on running Melling 22232 cam shaft.
Intake 468, exhaust 480 lift, duration 231 @ 0.050 , lobe separation 110, intake 304 duration and exhaust 287....
Thks...

You could run 11.0s or .100 , but finding a good pair of aftermarket cast iron should be under 500. Look in circle track used parts listing.

882 are very good heads. You chain about 10 of them together and you have a very good sailboat mooring. Compression. 7 to 9 is worth about 4% a point. 9 on up worth about 2% a point.

Spend money on some small chamber heads. Those 882s are without question the worst pieces under the hood. No flow, no compression. Even the lowest budget needs to include some kind of head replacement for 882s that will have smaller chambers for more compression.
Everything else depends on the heads you end up with and the power curve you are aiming for.

If the ports didn't suck-barely-the chamber size would be less of an issue. Durable. Dont crack much. But neither do Briggs and Stratton...

That's what I did. Not the best heads by far but cheap and the CR bump is a nice kick in the pants below 4000 rpm. Keep the engine recipe torquey instead of high reving and they will work fine.

Wouldn't iron vortecs be better and easier to find?
