After replacing all the rear bushing except for the two control arms, My transmission still clunks into gear (auto) and my idle is set at 700rpm. All the u-joints are good and no sign of drastic wear at the front of the differential. Could it be those control arm bushing will ease that a little
I would check the transmission mount. You didn't say whether or not that was replaced. If it's separated, it could cause your transmission to move when it's placed in gear. MajD
Don't thinks it's the transmission. More so in the rear end. The car wants to jump a bit. I do think it's best to have another look at it. Appreciate the quick response and I will check the tranny mount next weekend.
I do not think the control arm bushings would fix the knock. I believe there is an exhaust mount bracket attached to the transmission mount at the front of the cross member. If there is a lot of movement at the transmission mount, maybe a bad exhaust mount further down the car is allowing some contact. I hate chasing down noises like that. Let us know what you find and good luck.

i would look at motor mounts to...maybe its time to look at the rear differential....i seem to recall there is a sequence for with the car turned off and the car jacked up turning the rear wheels to diagnose the differential components for wear. i will have to look for it.
A classic sign that your control arm bushings are shot is that the car feels as if it wants to steer from the back. When you let off or on the gas, the car will make a knocking sound and try to steer itself for a few feet. You can check to see if some shims fell out or if the bushings are bad by jacking up the car, remove the wheel and put a large screw driver or crowbar in the the cavity and pry the trailing arm from side to side. If there is movement, you have found your problem. If there is poly, I can safely say that you have found the problem. Jerry
