As I have now been the victim of the lousy economy we have today, I was wondering how many others of you are unemployed, for how long, and from what type of work. I was in commercial construction. :flag
Re: How Many Guys Out There UN-Employed?? (VettePower)
The economy killed off my job too. I had had my last job for six years at a multi-million-dollar-a year business (salespeople made a lot of money; I was in operations, but I still did OK). I 've been unemployed five months and I'm frustrated at the lack of work available. I've actually had to apply for jobs paying 1/2 of what I used to make.
i think im considered unemployed. im a student looking for a job for the past 4 months. ain't poopie out there. i have an interview in a couple of weeks for the police dept. only job i could find
Re: How Many Guys Out There UN-Employed?? (VettePower)
Unemployed here too. From programmer/analyst. Worst is I'm very good at it...sent a bunch of CVs with great references...never got 1 single call. Now I'm going in the army. :)
Re: How Many Guys Out There UN-Employed?? (VettePower)
I am also a recent victim of corporate downsizing. The company has lost contracts and as a result jobs are eliminated.
I am an I.T. support person. Computers, phone systems, video conferencing ect.
The up side is that I have been collecting parts for the Corvette and have'nt had any time to work on it, I should be able to do about 6 months worth without needing more stuff.
Re: How Many Guys Out There UN-Employed?? (VettePower)
Well TECHNICALLY I'm unemployed. I am drawing down my sick time and on Dec 2 I'll get my retirement badge. Then my Vette will be financed from my pension. I feel sorry for guys that are being laid off. Had it happen to me twice in my lifetime and it's a real mind twister. Hang in there guys. It WILL get better.
Re: How Many Guys Out There UN-Employed?? (Ex-Deputy)
Mercifully, I am employed, which is a good thing because jobs are scarce in my profession and the number of jobs has been shrinking via consolidation (banks and brokerages) over the past 10 years. Most in my field have been mergered out of their job more than once. Each time it gets harder to find another job. I was unemployed for 6 months and did not enjoy one moment of it! :( So for those of you who are out and looking, hang in there and good luck! MJ
Re: How Many Guys Out There UN-Employed?? (vettecor)
I am significantly underemployed, to the point of bankruptcy...bad news...
health is no good either, arthritis, pretty bad, applied for SSDI, slim chance to get it, but at age 58 even without arthritis...who wants an old tyme ET and construction/home remodeler who can't handle a silly drill anymore.....
and YEH, the economy sux....big tyme, has really for about 12 years now...
now that all the yuppies have blown their 401k's on the internet bubble, it's going to be a LONG time recovering....before they quit saving and start spending....maybe a good long oil crisis will spike them out of those SUV's and in to other cars....more fuel efficient...
Re: How Many Guys Out There UN-Employed?? (VettePower)
I got laid off from WorldCom back in April....I was a programmer/analyst....best thing that could have happened as the accounting scandal hit just a matter of weeks after that....got a really nice severance pkg and was back at work in 2 weeks making $2k more per year doing much less mentally taxing work as a systems analyst....I know that was very very lucky....used some of the proceeds from the severance pkg to buy my 74.
