Default Front Bumper Brace and Frame Extensions Problems

I am trying to install the front bumper on the '72. When mounted the center mount of the bumper is about 1" too far forward and the bumper is not at all close to the body.
The outer brace extensions are also too far forward for me to install the C bracket for the outer bumper bolts.

Al these parts are in the furthest back position in the slots available.

Did the body shrink while it was off the frame? Looking at the AIM it does not appear that the extension assembly that holds the front cross member can be moved back at all.

Any ideas or do I just make the slots a little longer?

Do you have the center support rod in? This will lift the nose of the clip up which brings it out. Have you done anything with the core support like removing it or is it rotting. Was the front clip removed on your car or is in it's original location. Your avatar shows you have a few vettes so please excuse the questions if you have already checked them. Does the nose sit lower then the front of the hood?

Everything has been off the car and it is all rebuilt and painted. All the parts are what came off in the rebuild so I don't know why they don't fit now.

Read all but post #16 may be the biggest help.

Thanks, I found that info last night. I think that will be the easiest way to fit the bumper.
I just don't see where the inside frame extensions have any adjustment available. There are no slots in the bolt holes. Only the outside extensions have the slots.

Body was off frame but intact with proper nose support during restoration.

My only comment is, that round brace that goes from bumper center/nose to the core support.....eliminate it, as what will happen is ....in a slight tap in the front, it will bend/buckle the core support and into the radiator, causing more damage ......I removed mine off the '72 some 20 years ago.....runs/looks fine....

Body may be on frame back a bit from where it was.

The alignment studs are still in the door frames.

I still want to know if the inner extensions can be installed wrong? Is there adjustment in where they can be installed?

the front inner extensions are adjustable/slotted,
basically you have to leave everything very loose, get bumper into position first, then work back from bumper to frame,
tightening the bumper supports and extensions in place.

This means I will have to readjust the radiator core support also as the front crossmember is bolted to the inner extensions. To do this properly I will have to support the nose of the body somehow while loosening/moving all the supporting members. Wow, a lot of work and chance of cracking the paint or even the fiberglass.

You are talking about the horseshoe? Mine the front hole is slotted. The rear holes have welded in nuts so i assume the crossmember holes that it bolts to are slotted. If not, start slotting.

Got slots? Yep got em. (been a long day in wiring H**l)
Just not long enough. Will have to increase the slots on the extensions too.
