'72, wipers are stock in the important points to this thread.....wiper motor assy was new many years ago, but not used hardly at all, I noticed a hell of a chatter when using them the other day.....especially on the slo speed.....the blades were changed, still chatter......old new blades?? or maybe the linkage??
if so, what parts of the linkage?? all or just a few of the pivot points??
Lift the blades up and place a nice soft cloth under each one and try on a clean dry windshield. This will quickly tell if it's the blades or linkage.
If the blades are ok, pop the grill off and disconnect the lower (passenger side I think) linkage from the motor (mark the location of the linkage) and then if need me pull the other side. You can open the wiper door and try one side at a time by hand if need be

Was it doing it on a wet windshield? That will make a big difference. I changed my blades a few years ago and with a dry windshield they chattered a little but with water they did not.
The AIM says after adjusting the wipers to check them with a wet windshield. I know it makes a difference because I changed my motor out a few months ago, adjusted them per the AIM and used a cup of water on the windshield to check the adjustment BUT I guess I didn't wet the windshield enough because the first time I drove in actual rain the drivers side wiper was going past the A pillar trim. Damn-it now I have to go back and adjust them again............after my Fiero Seat mod is complete though.
the andies beat me to it, the window has to be wet
That's just the point, in a heavy downpour, it's fine....but in a slight drizzle, or slo traffic....the wipers are intermittent,....my mod/design....and so they take off on slo speed they chatter like hell.....it's stupid.....gotta be a way around that......
Try a glass sealant then.
Clean the glass really well (I clay bar mine) to make sure it's as smooth as possible and then give it a coat of glass sealant. There are a bunch of different ones (Adams, Griots, etc) but even the Rain-X low-end stuff will help. Wipe some on the wiper blade as well.
