Hey, I have a buddy that has a 78Pacecar with a bonestock drivetrain. He wants to pull a little more power out of the car. We don't want to remove the heads right now,(not enough money for new) We're looking at a crane cam (Energizer 266Dur .440 lift.) My question is....Is that too much for a stock torque convertor? Were gonna be putting on a pair of Dynomax LT headers, 2.5 inch true duals, Performer RPM intake and a 600cfm performer carb. and remove ALL smog equipment. Then later tear into the motor when he has more money.
My L-82 will stomp him into the ground like its nothing, but, we don't want to hamper drivability on the street, but we want more the 185 FWHP. Anymore CHEAP suggestions?
Would you recommend anything bigger? I COULD pull the L-48 heads and do some intake matching, clean the chambers up, and do some port polishing. If it would halp some. Mike.
I used Comp Cams Magnum 270H That would be about the biggest I think you would want to go with a stock converter and stock heads.. As the message before.... A few tricks work.. DD says I am in the 380HP area @ 5500... And I an running the dualk exhaust as well as dual cats... You can see mods in my sig.. You really should mnatch the valves, springs, rockers, etc as well....
What valve springs would you recomend? Were gonna have all winter to do this with a 3 stall heated garage....I have the brand new RPM intake, 600 cfm carb, and the Dynomax longtube headers are on order. I would like to know, what kind of power CAN these L-48 heads support? I am willing to pull them, and do some port work and some bowl clean up, if it will help any.
