Just put on a new stock fuel filter on my 68'. I was hesitant to replace it because I seemed to recall last time I replaced it it was a bear to keep from leaking around the threads. replaced it snugged everything up and sure enough fuel started to seep out from around the threads. Anyone have a suggestion on solving this problem?
I used some bearing grease on the line and the threads on the male fitting. It didn’t take much and allowed me to snug it a little tighter than running it in dry. No leaks. Probably not a bad idea to do the same at the carburetor.
Okay here is a neat idea I found online which did work for my leaking filter line.
"Works on brake, fuel, power steering, oil, trans, vacuum or any
other closed system using a flared fitting.
Use hardware store (got mine at Ace) trim or finishing washers
made of brass or aluminum. Like the kind common in cars
(usually chrome) on interior trim. For 3/16 size line fittings I
had to trim off the very outer edge with a pair of scissors.
Put them at your connection inserted upside down. You might
cram them down in with a small deep socket. Seat the trim washer
against the flare, tighten up the line, and no leaks. Cures leakage
caused by nicks and scratches, burrs, etc common to these
connections. When the connection is tightened the brass or
aluminum deforms perfectly to make a conical washer and seal
any imperfections. If the b-nut on the line doesn't seat fully, use
more than one as a shim to fill the void. Works best to form them
one at a time."
Pipe Thread Tape (Teflon) at AutoZone. White, comes on a plastic roll. Make sure its impervious to gasoline. Wrap threads in a CCW direction so as the fitting is tighten the tape is not removed. Stay well clear of the last threads on the end of a fitting so as not to cause a blockage of fuel anywhere.

tried tape initially with no success. The trim washer idea did the trick.
