Go to A/C delco web site. There is a section on plugs. Small block Chevy's love Autolite plugs though. I belive the number is 25 or 26 but they change numbering codes a lot so use the cross reference chart.
The X-plugs have a gap of 0,060 inches rather than the 0,046 inches of the normal type. They are intended to be used with the early HEI-distributors.
Reason is, that the HEI-distr. puts out much more voltage then the old distributors. Therefore you can use a larger gap thus obtaining a bigger spark. After 3 years, GM discovered that if they would use the smaller gap again, the spark plugs can be driven much longer. Simply because when a plug wears, the gap becomes bigger over time due to spark-errosion. The old distibutor could not handle the larger gap - therefore plugs had to be changed earlier (or had to be regapped). The HEI could easily live pretty long with a gap that becomes bigger over time (starting from 0,045).
So only use a X-plug if you have a coil that puts out the same voltage as a HEI-coil. Otherwise, the larger gap will ruin a stock coil. Or if the coil is already in worn condition, you will have no proper plug at all.
