My father originally gave me his '82 when I turned 17 as a gift/first car and for receiving a scholarship for college. Fast forward 10 years and I'm out of school making my own money and have since bought myself my own corvette and want to go through the '82 and give it back to my dad so we can cruise together. He recently beat some health problems and has a new outlook on life as well. The '82 now has 200+K miles on it and the stock CFI motor is beyond tired (assuming you could ever have considered it a healthy motor). I bought an 01 Z28 from a friend in my car club as a donor car. It has a low mile iron 6L/4L60 combo that is begging for a small cam and stall and some side pipes to complete the classic cruiser. I know there are plenty of companies out there that make LS kits and i figure Id turn to you guys to see whats the best one for the job. Ive done a bunch of reading and know some stuff has to be changed with the steering and what not, but Id prefer to spend a little extra money and have everything i need in one fell swoop than to piece together my own parts. Ive already gone through and done the suspension and brakes (with my dad ironically who thinks im going through the car to AutoX it instead of using my C5Z lol)
So, where should i start looking and who should i spend my money with
So I know you say you don't want to piece it together, but I don't know that there is a complete kit that will include everything you need, so some miscellaneous piecing together needs to be done either way.
Basically the things you need to put that LS and transmission in a C3 are:
Engine mounts (stock, or set back)
Transmission tunnel mods (possibly, search the forum for other members who have done this)
Matched accessories (might as well go with the F Body accessories from that camaro if it is running them. That 6.0 motor didn't come with the Z28, so it may be running truck accessories which won't fit as well)
Oil pan
Electric fans
Wiring harness (you can thin out the Z28 harness yourself if you are patient and savvy, or buy a premade one for about $500 that will be more plug and play)
Fuel pump (in tank is reccomended, but you can run an inline)
Fuel lines
You can see why a premade kit isn't your best bet, because different LS combos require different things. In your case, you need to find out what that 6.0l comes with. Is it the truck intake and harness or car? Truck accessories or F body? What oil pan does it have? Things like that change the pricing pretty dramatically.
Holley just came out with an accessories setup with no brackets. All based around a water pump to which everything mounts. Certainly would save a lot of headaches as it really minimizes the space required for all the accessories.
