Default Unwanted Dash Battery light

On my 1980 L82 the dash voltmeter shows the alternator is charging but the battery light stays 0n. It dims with increased engine RPM but never goes out. Any ideas on a fix would be most appreciated.
Thanks

Back probe the brown wire at the alternator plug with a voltmeter. It should be something like 3.5V with the key on and engine not running and it should be the same voltage as the alternator output stud with the engine running (in the 13.5V to 14.5V range).

I had a similar problem years ago and also an 80. Swapped the alternator with a spare and problem went away. I suspect one of the diodes was bad causing more AC voltage. Showed it was charging OK.

Popped a diode trio I would guess. Easy part to test with Ohm Meter and cheap to replace.
Diode trio is what lights the light (and sends power to the excitation circuit as someone here reminded me).
